Irrigation Efficiency
EQIP is the Farm Bill program used primarily to enhance irrigation efficiency in the Klamath Basin. It literally has brought millions of dollars into the Klamath Basin over the past few years. By helping irrigators enhance their efficiency, many millions of gallons of water are conserved. This benefits the farmer, the consumer, aquatic organisms, endangered species, urban human populations, even ocean-dwellers such as the anadromous salmonids which require freshwater for spawning.
The 2002 Farm Bill expired September 30, 2007. As of this writing, a new Farm Bill has not yet been agreed upon by Congress, nor has the 2002 Farm Bill been formally extended. Consequently the EQIP program -- along with all other Farm Bill programs -- is in hiatus. When we have news about a new Farm Bill we will update this site with whatever details may be relevant to Irrigation Efficiency. Please check back often!
