What Crops can be planted with No-till?

Crops ranging from alfalfa, canola, peas, barley, red and white wheat, and a wide variety of grasses have been planted.  Soil conditions have ranged from dry and rock hard to soft and fluffy former pastures.  Growers have used the no-till approach to plant into existing crops such as oats into old alfalfa stands.  So far the results have been very encouraging with good stands overall.

Long-term studies indicate that yields are not better than conventionally tilled ground, but they are comparable. Considering that the savings in labor, equipment use and fuel can top forty dollars per acre, you could save over four thousand dollars on a typical one hundred acre farm.  There are no standard methods of no-till farming that will apply to every grower, however by planting a small percentage of your land using this method, it will help you design a farm and conservation plan that will work for you.
