No-till and Crop Yields

Long-term studies indicate that yields are not usually better than conventionally tilled ground, but that the savings in labor, equipment use and fuel can exceed forty dollars per acre. Simply put, you could save over four thousand dollars on a typical one hundred acre farm.  There are no standard methods of no-till farming that will apply to every grower, however by planting a small percentage of your land using this method, you will gain valuable experience to help you design a farm and conservation plan that will work for you.

Several reports from growers in the Klamath Basin have indicated a slightly increased yield, and many feel it may be attributed to using no-till practices in conjunction with irrigation.  In any case, if yields are relatively the same, and cash outlays decrease, your bottom line can improve. That may be something to consider.
