Environmental Quality Incentives Program -- EQIP
In 2007, the Klamath Falls Field Office of the Natural Resources Conservation Service processed over 270 applications for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP). Over $3.5 million was available for technical and financial assistance in Klamath County. This resulted in issuance of 90 contracts this year obligating all the available funds. The Klamath Soil and Water Conservation District provided much needed help in delivering the program services to local farmers and ranchers. The 2007 fiscal year marked the end of the 2002 Farm Bill Program. Tremendous progress was made by the local agricultural community implementing conservation projects to address water quality and quantity, soil health, and wildlife habitat. Now is the time to look to the future. After months of gathering input around the nation and working through a very deliberative process, USDA has submitted their proposal for the 2007 Farm Bill. The process revealed virtually unanimous support for conservation programs in the next farm bill.
